From Mary Sonis
A night trip down to the Creek is always exciting. What a busy place. The Beavers are very happy and seem to be having a reunion every night. I saw the Mom, Dad, the Adolescent (who we thought had moved last year), and 2 year old kits, that still whimper a bit and stick close to Mom. The sound of crunching wood was very loud. Each Beaver staked out its own little inlet or fallen log, and gnawed away at their bark dinner.
Next night, and the log was again occupied by the adult Beaver. The Kit is never this bold. He would never sit mid- creek on a submerged log.
Next afternoon, same log, and the Muskrat was taking a bit of sun . He looks fluffy and cute in this picture, but when he is in the water, he looks a bit more rat like. His disposition is far more excitable and nervous than our Beaver royalty.

Where exactly along Bolin Creek has Mary been seeing these beavers? I have photographed barred owls along the creek, but would love to photograph beavers. Thanks.
Can you tell me the exact location that Mary Sonis has been seeing these beavers? I live in Chapel Hill and walk the Bolin Creek trail regularly. I have seen and photographed the well known barred owls, but never seen any beavers. I would love to photograph them too. I’m a little puzzled since in many places the creek appears to be too shallow to accommodate these animals. I usually walk from Estes Drive to M.L.K., Jr. Blvd. If you can tell me the rough location the beavers have been seen, I would appreciate it.
